Unexpectedly Opera Mission
Through the sharing of the love of opera with people of all circumstance, we enhance the affinity and connection of all.
Unexpectedly Opera will bring operatic performances into Homeless Shelters in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada.
Music is an essential part of human life. No culture has ever been observed which did not have music. Opera - that magical mixture of music and drama - should be available to all, as we are all worth it. We are all worthy of love, regardless of our social circumstance, and we are all worthy of respect.
There is more. The overall goal of the project is not simply to bring a sense of connection to the shelter community, but it is also to bring the Homeless Shelter and the homeless circumstance into the minds of the opera-lovers community. It's not about them and us, it is about us and us.
Are you an opera lover who worries that opera is is losing its relevance in today's world? Then support Unexpectedly Opera. Together, with our love of opera, we can touch lives and make a difference. We'd love to hear from you!
We are creating our own original production - Toronto Public Performances 2015:
Wednesday July 8 at 7:30pm and Saturday July 11 at 1:00pm
This provides us with a unique opportunity to fully engage our artists and performers to their maximum ability and interest, including those in our target community. Additional possibilities being considered include conducting short workshops in the shelters on various aspects of operatic production. Public performances have a projected audience of both homeless folk and paying ticket-holders.
